Back-up Your Facebook Contacts

Aug 31, 2010 | By: Casey Zeman

Want to learn how to quickly back-up your Facebook Contacts?

In the Post “How I Coped with My YouTube Account Being Hacked.” I stressed the importance of backing up EVERYTHING.  From Content to Contacts.

In this video above, I show you a very easy method to Back-up your Facebook Contacts.

I find backing-up content and contacts and in fact any part of your online business is crucial.  Remember, sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube can be canceled at anytime.  They don’t even have to give you a reason.  If you violate their user agreements then you are out.  Without any hope of getting whatever account you once had.  Also, with as many hackers, scammers, and spammers out there, doing a back-up of your facebook contacts every few months can give you that very necessary peace of mind.  1 in every 10 people online are hacked or their information is misused and violated.

Facebook has two apps that can be used to make a back-up of all your friends. One is called Friend CSV.

The other app from Facebook, is called Fonebook. I tried it and It was confusing and functionally pretty poor.  Also it has terrible reviews.

For the sake of time I am simply going to show you one, which is to use Yahoo to back-up your facebook contacts.

There are a few ways to do it.  However, this way takes a few steps so that is why I am showing you.

I recently read a story about a blogger who was using Plaxo to back-up all of his facebook contacts.  He had 5000, the max of friends on Facebook.  Once he used the software, which actually converted the image of an email address from facebook into an actual text and moved it into an email system such as outlook, he got stung by facebook.  They only allowed him to transfer over 1800 contacts and then removed his account.  That was a couple years ago.  I believe that Plaxo has made some strides to get compatible with Facebook as another viable resource for moving contacts.

There are always going to be new and inventive ways of doing the same thing.  My suggestion to anyone is look around and get an idea if a program is safe or not.

That is why I have made a video showing how to use Yahoo to back-up your facebook contacts.  It is safe, I did not violate anything by doing it, and it is not complex…I mean it is Yahoo, they are all about user friendly.

Hey Casey, that’s a cool tip – I use Yahoo as my primary email account, but didn’t think to actually use it to back up my Facebook contacts. Great idea!

Thanks Josh. I got a great tip from you as well. YouTube Subscription button and clicking the box to get people signed up to receive email updates. I would love to talk to you more about that actually. Cheers!

Awesome info Casey! I have a question though, when I do the import into Yahoo it says found 600 (even though I have 4500 facebook friends) but when it is ready to do the import it says “Congratulations – 0 New Contacts imported” Hhhhmmm – any idea why it won’t import my facebook contacts? I am signed up for facebook with a gmail account – could that be the problem??? Thanks so much! Great stuff 🙂

Hi Casey, thank you so much I’ve been looking for an answer to this problem for ages and no one has been able to help me.

Just one question, I’m doing this for a client and she has 5000 followers and a fanpage with 700 fans. When I do the back-up will it take the contact details from both locations or will I have to do them separately?

    Thanks again,
    Tally

They import all of your friend approvals not so much your likes. have those people on your friend list and then move them to your like page.
